Are You Grieving?
Grief doesn’t always look like sadness, and grief isn’t limited to only death. It may look like…
Change in Appetite.
Feeling Numb or Disconnected. Feeling flat or as though you are just going through the emotions.
Trouble focusing, remembering things or completing everyday tasks.
Keeping Busy. Filling your schedule or staying distracted so there is little time to think or feel.
Exhaustion. Feeling physically or emotionally drained, even when you haven’t done very much.
Guilt or Regret. Thinking about things you did, didn’t do, say or didn’t say.
-
Withdrawing from others. Wanting more time alone or finding social interaction more difficult than usual.
Difficulty making decisions. Even small decisions may suddenly feel overwhelming.
Irritability or anger. Having less patience or reacting more strongly than you normally would.
Changes in routines. Everyday habits, interests or activities may no longer feel the same.
Replaying the past. Frequently thinking about what happened, what you wish had been different, or “If only…”
Looking for short-term relief. Using good, alcohol, shopping, work, social media or other distractions to temporarily escape difficult feelings.
Feeling like you should be “over it” Wondering why you’re still affected when you or others think enough time has passed.
Loneliness. Feeling alone, even when other people are around.
Loss of motivation. Things that once mattered or interested you may require much more effort.
Anxiety or worry. Feeling unsettled, fearful or more concerned about what could happen next.
Unexpected reminders. From a song, smell, place, date, etc that brings feelings connected to the loss to surface.
